HAMILTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY NOMINATES
GREG MARTIN FOR DISTRICT 3 COUNTY COMMISSION
Chattanooga, Tenn. (Sept. 9, 2016) -The Hamilton County Republican Party today announced Greg Martin was unanimously elected to be the Republican nominee for the upcoming special election on November 8, 2016 that will elect the next District 3 Commissioner on the Hamilton County Commission. The nomination was made during a special District 3 caucus the Party held to nominate a candidate for this elected office, which became an open seat after Marty Haynes resigned the position to assume his new duties as the Hamilton County Assessor of Property.
“Republicans in District 3 and across Hamilton County are excited to rally around Greg Martin and ensure he wins on Election Day,” said Tony Sanders, chairman on the Hamilton County Republican Party. “Greg has an outstanding record of service to our community and brings a keen understanding of the key issues facing our community. Most important, Greg is a conservative Republican that will ensure the values of District 3 are well represented on the Hamilton County Commission.”
In compliance with state laws, the Party was required to call a special caucus and officially nominate a candidate to run for this open seat. The nomination process was open to any District 3 Republican who wished to represent the Party in the November election. The Party conducted its caucus on Tuesday night at the Chattanooga North River Civic Center, and Greg Martin was officially nominated by Northgate 2 delegate Ed Gravitte and seconded by Hixson 2 delegate Steve Hall. After closing the discussion on nominations, Martin received the unanimous vote and support from all of the District 3 delegates in attendance.
“Last night, the delegates of District 3 placed their trust in me to represent our Party on the November 8 ballot. For this, I am honored and blessed,” said Greg Martin. “District 3 wants a Commissioner that will listen, solve problems and be an advocate in county government. During the next 60 days, I look forward to speaking with District 3 voters about my vision on how we can work together and make our community and Hamilton County better for everyone.”
Born and raised in Hixson, Martin graduated from Hixson High School in 1981 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Bryan College and a master and doctoral degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Martin currently serves District 3 as the representative on the Hamilton County School Board, a position he has held since March 2012. Last year, Martin was named the PTA School Board Member of the Year in the State of Tennessee in recognition for his work on the school board and efforts to improve public education in Hamilton County. In addition, Martin is a member of the Hixson Kiwanis and serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Hixson, the Advisory Board of the North River Civic Center and the Board of Directors for the Hixson Council of the Chamber of Commerce.
